A mother duck hatches her eggs and while most of her ducklings are normal, one is gray, too large, and too clumsy to fit in among the others. Everyone around him says that he simply does not belong, and after being teased for so long, he decides to leave and fend for himself. After struggling on his own, he meets some beautiful swans who welcome him and accept him as one of their own.   He is confused at first, but once he looks down into the water at his reflection and sees that he too is a beautiful swan, he is overjoyed with a sense of belonging. It is because of his suffering that he appreciates his newly found happiness so much more.

The classic fable, the Ugly Duckling is woven in with the story of a modern school where students discover their own beauty in the face of cruelty from peers. Additional music and lyrics by Jill Bolstridge Co-directed by Monica Mulhall and Aidaa Peerzada Website: childrenstheatercompany.org
