My name is Ruby Bridges and I was 6 years old when I went on a historic walk to school as the first African American student in an all-white Elementary School in Louisiana. I ate lunch alone and sometimes played with my teacher alone at recess, but I never missed a day of school that year. In 1999, I established The Ruby Bridges Foundation to promote tolerance and create change through education.
